Relay Robotics Deploys Autonomous Last-Mile Delivery Fleet in Austin Metro Area
AUSTIN, Texas, April 12, 2026 /Pitchwire/ /Pitchwire/ — Relay Robotics, a developer of autonomous sidewalk delivery robots, today announced the deployment of 150 delivery units across the Austin metropolitan area, marking the company's largest single-market launch to date.
The fleet will serve orders from over 80 restaurant and retail partners, including local favorites and national chains, with delivery fees starting at $1.99. Deliveries are completed in an average of 22 minutes within a 2-mile radius of partner locations.
"Austin is the ideal market for sidewalk delivery — it's dense enough for efficient routing, growing fast enough to sustain demand, and progressive enough in its regulatory approach to autonomous vehicles," said Kevin Chang, CEO of Relay Robotics.
Each Relay unit is a six-wheeled, insulated robot approximately 2 feet tall that navigates sidewalks using a combination of LiDAR, cameras, and GPS. The robots travel at pedestrian speeds (3-4 mph), yield to pedestrians, and can carry up to 30 pounds of cargo in a temperature-controlled compartment.
The Austin deployment follows successful operations in Tempe, Arizona and Madison, Wisconsin, where Relay has completed over 500,000 deliveries since 2024.
Relay Robotics has raised $45 million in total funding, including a $28 million Series B led by Lightspeed Venture Partners in September 2025.
