AUSTIN, Texas, April 16, 2026 /Pitchwire/ /Pitchwire/ — A new benchmark analysis comparing AI-native press release distribution platforms against traditional wire services found that companies using AI-powered distribution achieved earned media coverage 64% faster, with a median time from release submission to first journalist pickup of 4.2 hours versus 11.8 hours for traditional wire services.

The analysis, conducted by Pitchwire's research team using data from 1,200 press releases distributed across both AI and traditional channels between January and March 2026, also found significant differences in coverage quality and relevance.

Key findings include:

— AI-distributed releases received 3.2x more journalist replies per release, driven primarily by personalized pitching that matched release content to journalist beat coverage

— Traditional wire releases appeared on more total outlets (average 187 vs. 42), but the AI-distributed releases had a 78% higher rate of original coverage (articles written by journalists) versus syndicated reprints

— Releases that included AI-generated social media posts saw 2.1x more social engagement than releases distributed without social assets

— The average editorial quality score for AI-reviewed releases was 91/100, compared to an estimated 73/100 for releases submitted without AI editorial review (based on a random sample of 200 wire-distributed releases scored by the same rubric)

"The traditional wire model optimizes for reach — how many outlets received the release," said Nicolai Robles, founder of Pitchwire. "But reach without relevance is noise. AI-native distribution optimizes for coverage — how many journalists actually write about your news."

The full benchmark methodology and anonymized dataset will be published on pitchwire.ai/newsroom.

Pitchwire offers AI editorial review, multi-channel distribution, and autonomous journalist pitching starting at $149 per release.
